Official Launch of KiwiSpace Foundation - 12 April 2011
Tuesday 12th April, 2011 - the 50th anniversary of human spaceflight, and 30th anniversary of the first space shuttle launch - marked the official incorporation of KiwiSpace Foundation as a charitable trust (society-based).
A message from the International Space Station
Dmitry Kondratyev, Commander of Expedition 27 and Flight Engineer for Expedition 26 aboard the International Space Station, generously recorded this message to New Zealand space enthusiasts for KiwiSpace' launch festivities and the 50th anniversary of human spaceflight.
KiwiSpace celebrated the 50th anniversary by holding two premiere screenings of the new movie First Orbit at the Stardome in Auckland, and Carter Observatory in Wellington, and the launch of a high-altitude helium balloon, which returned stunning photos from the Edge of Space.
